We support independent DMCs as they strengthen their positioning, commercial focus, and approach to international markets, so they are well prepared to work with buyers at scale.
Hawkfield is not a travel seller, an intermediary, or a representation layer. We stay out of pricing and contracting, and do not sit between DMCs and buyers.
Our role is long-term and advisory, grounded in direct experience of how travel businesses actually operate, and focused on providing perspective as founders navigate their next stage of growth.
When a DMC has clear strategy, commercial boundaries, and a well-defined delivery model, working relationships are easier to establish and easier to maintain.
Buyers benefit from partners who are commercially confident, consistent in delivery, and straightforward to work with over time.
Hawkfield focuses on the foundations of strong buyer–DMC partnerships, rather than the transactions themselves.
Building a successful DMC is one of the hardest things to do well in travel.
Founders take real risks, invest years of their lives, and operate in complex environments – often far from the markets they sell into. Doing that consistently, while delivering high-quality experiences on the ground, takes exceptional energy, judgement, and commitment.
We have enormous respect for the entrepreneurs who build these businesses, and it’s a privilege to work alongside them. Hawkfield exists to support this kind of company, bringing perspective, market context, and commercial clarity shaped by experience across multiple destinations.
Hawkfield was founded by Huw Owen and Sam Owen.
Huw has worked in the travel industry since 2003, including roles with major tour operators and DMCs, and as co-founder of TravelLocal. He has worked closely with hundreds of DMCs as a buyer, partner, consultant and advisor.
Sam brings deep experience in project management, operations, and governance, and ensures Hawkfield itself is built with structure, discipline, and longevity in mind.
Together we built Hawkfield because we enjoy working with independent DMCs and have enormous respect for what they do; and because the travel industry makes it hard to find them.
Founder-led DMCs sit at the heart of the travel industry: deeply rooted in place, entrepreneurial by necessity, and responsible for turning ideas into reality on the ground. Hawkfield brings together our buy-side experience, operational understanding, and commercial perspective to support the DMCs we truly believe in. When we work with a DMC, it’s because we respect their craft and want to help them succeed in the wider market, on their own terms.
